FAIRHAVEN-William J. Wylie, 75, of Fairhaven passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at home surrounded by his wife, daughter and John, after a long battle with COPD. He was the loving husband of 43 years to June (Tavares) Wylie.
Born in Manchester, CT, son of the late Howard R. andMuriel B. (Rose) Wylie, he grew up in New Bedford where he graduated from New Bedford High School and settled in Fairhaven in 1978. William served in the Army and later worked as an Oiler for 29 years for the W.H.M.V and Nantucket Steamship Authority in Woods Hole until his retirement in 2010.
William enjoyed playing cards, fishing, quahoging and lobstering. He loved being on the ocean. William also enjoyed watching movies at home with his wife.
He is survived by his loving wife June, a daughter, Janet A. Peters of RI; two grandchildren, Tyler and Koby Mitchell; three sisters, Joann Melendes and Carolyn Sirrico both of Sandwich and Marie Jellinek and her husband Theodore of Falmouth son in law John Mitchell and several nieces and nephews. William was the father of the late Wendy L. (Peters) Mitchell and brother of the late Paul H. Wylie and the father in law to the late Karen Iannella.
