William C. Westgate passed away unexpected on January 15, 2023 at St. Lukes Hospital. Born in New Bedford, MA. Son of late Charles and Florence (Mackay) Westgate. Widower of the late Cheryl (Ditchey) Westgate. He was a resident of New Bedford for most of his life. Dad was a graduate of Bishop Stang High School Class of 1971, he attended BCC.
He worked for the former Fernandes Super Markets for 10 years and most recently was employed as a retired tractor trailer driver and warehouse employee for Milhench Industrial Supply Co. for 42 years. He loved his work and made many friends on the road. But most of all he loved his daughter Courtney M. Gundersen and his two grandsons, Niklas and Aleksander. Along with his two sisters Pat and Kathy. Dad had a good sense of humor and laughed at the funniest things as dumb as they were. He helped his friends whenever he could because he knew what it was like to need help sometimes.
He was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Fairhaven. He tried to be a good spiritual man, but often fell short, but God knows he tried. Survivors include his daughter, Courtney M. Gundersen and her husband Erik S. Gundersen, their two sons, Niklas S. and Aleksander C. Gundersen; His sisters, Patricia A. Pomfret and her husband Norman Pomfret and Kathleen Roy and her husband Joseph Roy. He was predeceased by his wife Cheryl in 2007.
Calling hours are Friday from 5-8pm in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven. His funeral will be Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 9am from the funeral home followed by a funeral service at 10am in the Hope Evangelical Community Church, 88 Hathaway Rd., North Dartmouth.
