William A. Borges, “Bill”, 68, a life-long resident of Assonet, passed away unexpectedly on March 25, 2021 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Joseph W. Borges and the late Florence L (St.Yves) Borges, he was a graduate of Apponequet Regional High School, and worked as an automobile mechanic and garage owner with his brothers through much of his life. More recently he owned and operated Assonet Auto and worked as a currier for Miller’s Express.
Bill had a big heart. He was always gregarious and full of humor. He enjoyed family road trips, camping in Loudon NH to attend the Unadilla Motocross, Seekonk Speedway & Twin River Casino. No matter the situation he always remained positive. Even during the last year of pandemic isolation he would remind everyone when saying goodbye to simply “Live Life!”.
He is survived by two daughters, Corrie Ann Borges of Maine; Jessica L. Simmons & her husband Christopher of Dartmouth; two brothers Peter Borges & his wife Melissa of Assonet; Thomas Borges & his Wife Liz of Assonet; four grandchildren, Riley Donahue; Chance, Tenley & Emery Simmons; as well as two nieces & one nephew. He was also preceded in death by his sister Ellen Borges & his daughter Cristie Lou Borges.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 10am in St. Bernard’s Church, 30 S. Main St., Assonet with burial to follow in the Assonet Burying Ground. Relatives and friends are invited to gather directly at church that morning. There will also be a time of public visitation on Monday, April 5, 2021 from 5-8pm in the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, MA, subject to mask requirements a capacity limitations.
