Obituary

“You placed smiles like flowers on the altar of the heart.” - John O’Donohue

Valerie R. Stout, 75, of Swansea, passed away suddenly at her home on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

Born in Fall River, Valerie Renee Stout (Lapierre) was the daughter of the late Ovide A. Lapierre and Irene (Gariepy) Lapierre. Her sisters Jocelyn Champlain (Tiverton, MA) and Susan Travis (Rehoboth, MA) preceded her in death. Valerie is survived by her children; Laura Stout LaTour and husband John LaTour and their two children, Henry Joseph LaTour and Harper Alice LaTour of Somerset, MA, and her son Noel Stout and his wife Emily White and their daughter June Marjorie Stout of Sequim, WA.  She is also survived by her sister Charlotte Perry and husband Michael Perry of Swansea, MA, as well as her brother Guy Lapierre and his wife Becky Lapierre of Madison, WI. Valerie also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and brothers-in-law.

Valerie was a dedicated member of the Rehoboth Baptist Church for over thirty years.  She was highly involved in church activities including service on the Deaconess Board, and she considered every member of the church to be a part of her extended family, sharing their joys and sorrows with an open heart and mind.

Valerie enjoyed many hobbies, including knitting and sewing, reading thrillers and contemporary fiction, dog-sitting for her niece Jessica Gallant and her husband Doug, spending time with her grandnieces April and Lana Perry,  and attending Tai Chi classes with her sister Charlotte. She loved to write and receive letters and cards, sending countless thank you, birthday, and anniversary cards to friends and family.

Her greatest joy was being a Nana to her three grandchildren; Henry (15), Harper (10), and June (2). Valerie reveled in their accomplishments, whether it was designing video games, drawing and illustrating, or hearing them say “Nana” for the first time. She was always their cheerleader, encouraging their creativity and their compassion.

Without hesitation, Valerie offered empathy and kindness to all, and she was always willing to lend a hand or ear to anyone in need.  She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
