Thomas H. Pomfret, 78, of Fairhaven, passed away suddenly, on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at St. Luke’s Hospital, in New Bedford, after a brief illness. He was the husband of 52 years to Cynthia J. (Correia) Pomfret.
Born in Acushnet, he was the son of the late Thomas Pomfret, Jr. and Olive G. (Lomas) Pomfret. Tom was a lifelong resident of Fairhaven and a 1959 graduate of Fairhaven High School. He served his country in the Air Force during the Vietnam War era and graduated from Southeastern Massachusetts Technological Institute (SMTI). Tom then worked for 28 years as an Electronic Engineer at Raytheon in Portsmouth, RI until his retirement.
While his children were growing up, Tom was very involved in coaching softball and baseball and never missed his children’s athletic events and academic celebrations. He served as a Fairhaven Town Meeting Member for many years and also enjoyed wood working, target shooting, playing cribbage, completing crossword puzzles and Sudoku, but mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Thomas C. Pomfret and his partner William M. Gagnon of Auburn, MA and James A. Pomfret and his wife Rowena of Elk Grove, CA; two daughters, Amy L. Ring and her husband James of Gilbert, AZ and Heather M. Veilleux and her husband Douglas of Rochester, MA; seven grandchildren, Collin, Andrew and Bryson Ring, Reily and Delaney Veilleux, and Tyler and Kaycie Pomfret; a brother, Norman Pomfret and his wife Patricia of Sarasota, Fl; a sister-in-law Brenda Pomfret of Fairhaven; two sisters-in-law Kathleen Silvia and her husband John of Portsmouth, RI and Linda Smith of Fairhaven; and several nieces and nephews. Thomas was the brother of the late Robert E. Pomfret.
