Obituary

Thelma Lorraine (Bentley) Coito, 92, of New Bedford passed away unexpectedly Monday, April 12, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford.  She was the wife of the late Manuel Coito.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary (Colyar) Bentley, she lived in the house she was born in her whole life. She was a longtime active member of the Pilgrim United Church of Christ in New Bedford.

Thelma graduated from New Bedford High School and had worked as a hairdresser and later for Meals on Wheels.  She loved traveling the world with her son Dennis and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.

She is survived by her sons, Douglas P. Coito of New Bedford and David W. Coito and his wife Susana of South Dartmouth;  two grandchildren, Bethany and Megan Coito and several nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Coito was the mother of the late Dennis O. Coito and sister of the late Gordon and Raymond Bentley.

A Funeral Service will be Celebrated Friday, April 16, 2021 at 10am in the Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 634 Purchase St., New Bedford. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.  Visitation will be private.  Arrangements are by the Donaghy New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 465 County St., New Bedford.
