Susan Nephew

August 4, 2020

Susan Regina Nephew, 60, of Taunton, passed away on Tuesday August 4th, 2020, with her children by her side. She fought a long battle with heart disease and never gave up that fight.

She was born to the late Louis A. Nephew and Jeanette C. (Bishop) Nephew in Boston, Massachusetts. Susan proudly received her GED through studies at Bristol Community College in 1993.

She shared her life and love with her partner, Roberto Rios of Taunton. They shared four children: Christopher Rios and his wife Heather of Taunton; Anthony Rios of Taunton; Samantha Gizzi and her husband Steven of St. Joseph, MI; and Heather Rios-Pistoor and her wife Kiersten of Mansfield. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Gabrielle, Lilliana, Natalie and Benjamin, who lovingly referred to her as “Sunshine”.  One of seven children, she is also survived by her sisters and brothers; Patrice Genchauskas and her husband Steven of Bourne; Mary Nephew-Torres of Raynham; Michael Nephew and his wife Susan Nephew of Raynham; Louie Nephew and his wife Kathie of Lakeville; Joseph Nephew and his late wife Dale of Hallifax, Nova Scotia. Susan is preceded in death by her brother, Paul Nephew.

Susan was a devoted mother and homemaker.  Her children were her world and being together, immersed in their passions, brought her so much pride and joy. She was so proud to be their biggest supporter alongside their activities, be it dance, sports, art, theatre or any accomplishment. For many years, she was very involved in Tri-County Head Start program, either working for the center or volunteering her time there.

Susan loved to be with her family and friends. Togetherness brought her so much happiness. She enjoyed bingo, trips to Seekonk Speedway with friends, playing cards and rummoli with family, sleepovers with her granddaughters and doing for others. Castle Island was so special to her and reminded her of times with her mother.  She was giving of her love and acts of kindness and was the first to give you a smile. She was selfless, and always put others first. She wished the best for others and always offered prayers in hard times. A breast cancer survivor; Susan participated in the LiveStrong program at the YMCA and made great bonds with fellow warriors through the Gloria Gemma Foundation.

Please remember Susan through performing small acts of kindness each day that embodied her loving spirit: warm smiles to strangers, caring for your neighbor and being genuinely welcoming to others without hesitation. Through these acts, her spirit will live on in each of us.
