SWANSEA, MA—Ronald Melancon, 76, a Swansea resident for the past 40 years, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021 in the Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband for 53 years of Maria Fatima (Bonito) Melancon.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Edmund Melancon and the late Mabel (Plunkett) Melancon, he graduated from B.M.C. Durfee High School in 1963 and went on to train as a machinist. He worked as a machinist for the former Globe Mfg. in Fall River for many years.
Ronald was a communicant of St. Louis de France Church, Swansea, a member of the Fall River Elks, the Liberal Club and the Somerset Progressive Club. He also served for six years in the National Guard.
Besides his wife he is survived by a son, David Melancon and his wife Tanya of Westport and two grandchildren Myah and Zachary. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard Melancon.
His funeral will be held Monday, August 2, 2021 at 9 AM from the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Louis de France Church, Buffinton St., Swansea. Entombment will follow at the Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3 to 6 PM in the funeral home.
