Ronald G. Barry, 84, of Taunton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. He was the devoted husband of 55 years to the late Mary E. Barry. Ron is survived by his children; Lisa Silvia and her husband David, Debra Ernest and her husband Joe, Ronald Barry Jr and his husband Alex and Robin Jones and her husband Jeffrey. Ron also leaves behind many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ronald Barry’s lifelong dedication to the sick and suffering from mental health is unparalleled. For over 40 years, he cared for the patients of Taunton State Hospital with compassion, empathy, and courage. Oh, the stories he would regale us with about his experiences there. One particular story that resonates was a time in the 1970s during a nurses’ strike, when his beloved Mary was required to work around the clock for days on end. She had not seen her children for over a week. So heroic Ronnie, with all his love and might, bundled up the kids, drove them to the hospital, and hauled them over a stone wall so they could see their mom.
It was no secret that Ronnie was a fervent outdoorsman. He was a passionate collector of firearms. He was a hunter, a camper, a snowmobiler, and loved the thrill of all-terrain vehicles. He loved his action movies, and most of all, food! He would diagnose his own illnesses by eating a pizza. If he was able to keep it down, he was okay! He was a guru with wiring and electrical projects. And he devoured gadgets of all kinds, flashlights in particular. There were never enough flashlights to go around. He even owned a pair of reading glasses with tiny LED lights on them to better peruse the menus at his favorite restaurants.
In addition to his travels, Ronnie was in the army reserves for decades, and served his country in active duty more than once. Who can forget how he loved spinning tales of his adventures? When Ronnie entered a room, he was the center of attention. He would hold court telling his stories. And he relished every moment of it!
Children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, sons-in-law, life-long friends, all share a joyous Ronnie memory. In this time of sorrow and celebration, I pray that we can all find comfort in our treasured memories. In fact, Ronald Barry, loved every moment of life. His family’s cherished memories are testament to the love he had for everyone in his sphere of influence. The warmest ray of sunshine enveloped Ronnie and Mary upon their first embrace in Heaven.
God bless you and keep you, Ronnie. God bless and comfort this beautiful loving family through this time and always. Rest with the angels, our sweet, sweet Dad.
