Richard F. Joynt, 97, a resident of Somerset for the past 70 years, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021 in the Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband for 75 years of Ruth (Patterson) Joynt.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Richard A. Joynt and the late Ella (Simister) Joynt, he was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, and enlisted in the Navy during WWII, serving as an aircraft mechanic. He later worked as a Stationary Engineer at the former Montaup Power Plant in Somerset for over 40 years. He was a longtime member of the former First Presbyterian Church, of Fall River.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four children, Gerald D. Joynt and his wife Marilyn, Susan Dionne Smith and her husband David, Robert F. Joynt and his wife Sandra, all of Somerset, and Donna R. Berg and her husband William of Seekonk; a sister Julie Collins of Somerset; eight grandchildren, Marc Dionne, Matthew Dionne, David Joynt, Melissa Stevens, Greg Joynt, Kevin Joynt, Laura Haskell and Michael Berg; also eight great grandchildren, Ryan Dionne, Conor Dionne, Lyla Joynt, Avery Stevens, Colson Stevens, Mason Joynt, William Dionne and Andrew Dionne. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William Joynt.
A funeral service will be held Friday, July 9, 2021 at 11AM in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton Street, Somerset, with a public gathering time from 10-11AM prior to the service. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Masks are requested due to health limitations among the immediate family. Burial will be private.
