FAIRHAVEN-Richard Serra, 79, of Fairhaven passed away peacefully, Monday, March 29, 2021 at home, surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of 57 years to Lillian (Rodeillat) Serra.
Born and raised in New Bedford, son of the late Nicolas and Georgianna (Oliveira) Serra, he settled in Fairhaven in 1969. Richard served in the Army during the Vietnam War and later worked as a jeweler and owner of Serra’s Gold Jewelry on Acushnet Ave. in New Bedford for many years.
He enjoyed playing pool and was a regular at Straight Shooter’s in Fall River. Richard also enjoyed golfing, playing poker, walking, exercising and playing sports.
He is survived by his wife Lillian; a son, Christopher J. Serra of Tiverton, RI; two daughters, Dawn Soares and her husband Henry of Dartmouth and Shellie Serra of Fall River; five grandchildren, Christopher Serra, Heather DeCosta and her husband Scott, Kaelyn Olivier and her husband Zach, Henry and Max Soares; five great grandchildren, Colton, Alanna, Logan, Jaxton and Maverick; a sister, Elaine Johnson of New Bedford; an aunt, Mary Souza of New Bedford and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated and memorial visitation will be held Tuesday from 4-7 pm in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 10am in St. Joseph’s Church in Fairhaven.
