Obituary

Raymond J. Cheney, Jr., 95, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2021. He was the husband of the late Joan (Macgregor) Cheney.

 

Ray was born in Cohoes, NY and was the son of the late Raymond J. Cheney, Sr and Florence (Hebert) Cheney.

 

Ray served his country honorably in the US Marine Corps during WWII and went on to service with the Civil Air Patrol as a search and reserve pilot with the US Air Force. Ray was a communicant of Holy Name Church in Fall River and also the past president of the Fall River Rotary Club, and the Chamber of Commerce. Ray served on the Board of Junior Achievement and was the District Chairman of the Moby Dick Council where he organized fund raising for the Fall River Marine Museum. He was the recipient of the outstanding citizens award and also served on the citizens advisory committee for the 9th Naval District. Ray was a man who cared deeply for his family and his civic duties. 

 

He is survived by his children, John A. Cheney, David W. Cheney, Brian T. Cheney and Lynn C. Deemer and her husband Jim; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 

Private arrangements have been entrusted to the Hathaway Home for Funerals, Fall River. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Fall River, 803 Bedford St., Fall River, MA 02723.
