Ralph E. Ayler, Jr., 92, “Welcoming Eagle” of the Pocasset Tribe passed away peacefully Sunday, June 6, 2021, at the Royal of Fairhaven after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Maryliss (Bissonette) Ayler.
Born and raised in New Bedford, son of the late Ralph E. Ayler, Sr. and Alyse (Brown) Ayler, he lived most of his life in the city, moving to Fairhaven two years ago. Ralph worked as an auto mechanic for many years at various shops and later as a driver for Whaling City Transit until his retirement.
Ralph loved fishing, working on cars, going on mystery rides, yard sales and telling jokes but especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by two daughters, Alyse Ayler and Kerry Chavez both of New Bedford; a step son, Edgar Fonseca and his wife Rose of New Bedford; two sisters, June Roderick of New Bedford and Barbara Chase of NJ; his granddaughter, Tanya Sherman and her husband Ted of Fairhaven with whom he lived and many other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
