Phyllis I. Gorman

June 11, 2022

Attleboro- Phyllis Ione (Milburn) Gorman, 72 of Attleboro, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 11, 2022 following a courageous 10 year battle with cancer.  She was the wife of William Gorman and mother to Lisa Gorman both of Attleboro.

Born in the summer of 1949, she was the daughter of the late Orval James Milburn and the late Jennie (Melito) DeShazo.  She grew up in the Boston area and attended Catholic Schools in Boston and Brookline.  Moving to Attleboro in the late 1960’s, she was employed by many local insurance agencies including: Willis MacKinnon, Newbury, Richardson Cuddy and LaPointe.  She achieved her CPIW Designation and was also a Licensed Insurance Broker.  She worked in both personal insurance coverage and commercial lines coverage.  She left the Insurance Agency business in 1999 to concentrate on the care of her handicapped daughter, Lisa.  She would take her to all the necessary appointments while she was still physically able.

Phyllis loved cooking and discovering new recipes to try.  A huge fan of the Food Network, she would watch her favorite chefs and then make changes to the recipes to suit her tastes.  Her dishes were always very well received by her family and guests alike.  She had many subscriptions to food magazines and would scour the pages looking for interesting things to make for her family.  She was an avid collector of cook books and had many shelves full of them.  It brought her much pleasure to be a good homemaker and home chef, she did both exceedingly well.  Caring for her daughter, Lisa was always her number one priority in her life.  She was also an avid reader of fictional novels, a book was never far from her favorite chair.

Along with her husband and daughter, Phyllis is also survived by her two brothers; James Milburn and his wife Cheri of Oklahoma and Michael Milburn and his wife Zrada of Oklahoma.  Her sister, Kathy Nagy and her husband Bill of North Carolina and her sister-in-law, Elizabeth J. DeTore and her husband Dean of Attleboro.  Phyllis was the sister to the late Tanya Hintzman and her husband Jason of Florida.  Step-daughter to the late Charles DeShazo of North Attleboro, formerly of Attleboro.  Sister -in-law to the late George T. Gorman of Rehoboth and the late Patrick W. Gorman and his wife Maureen of Attleboro.  She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who all loved their “Auntie Phyllis” and many cousins who loved her dearly.

The family would like to thank Hope Hospice for the comfort they provided Phyllis during her final days and Sturdy Oncology for their care and concern.
