Obituary

Pearl Albertina (Hadley) Alston Blais, 96, formerly of Norton, Attleboro, North Attleboro, and Brockton passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. She was born in Boston on September 8, 1924, to the late William Hadley, Sr., and the late Gertrude (Jones) Hadley. Pearl attended the Norton Public Schools, graduating in 1943. While raising her family, she earned two licenses, one as a Practical Nurse and another as an Occupational Therapist, and worked at both Paul Dever and Wrentham State Schools. After 30 years of service, she changed careers and served as a Human Resources Director for Avon Products. She also acted as personal assistant to two Wheaton College presidents.

As a dedicated Christian woman, she had many roles at the churches she attended, including Sunday School teacher and youth leader at Messiah Baptist Church in Brockton and the Baptist Church of All Nations (formerly The First Portuguese Baptist Church) in Taunton. While attending BCAN, she and her late husband, Henry, led a card ministry sending cards of encouragement, wellness, birthday, and more to the parishioners and other community members. This made her well-loved and well-known as “Mother Pearl” throughout the region.

Pearl is predeceased by her children’s father, the late William Alston, Sr. of Norton, MA. Her husband of 43 years, Henry Blais, Jr., passed away in May 2018.

She is survived by her four children: William Alston, Jr. (Ingrid) of New Jersey, Marcia Perry (Joseph) of Mass., Judith Wright of Mass., and Denise Alston of Maryland.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Blais loved reading, gardening, traveling to the seashore, and trying new recipes. She held a lifetime membership in the NAACP and retained her membership in the American Legion Auxiliary at Norton Post #222 for over 65 years.
