Patricia (Pat) Ann (Moore) Handren

Patricia (Pat) Ann (Moore) Handren, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 in her home in Taunton. Patricia was known for her caring and concern for others. Pat was a graduate of Bridgewater State (College) University, with degrees in education and special needs education.  While at Bridgewater, she was active on the field hockey and volleyball teams.  She was a teacher in the Brockton School System for more than 40 years, a leader in the Annawon Council (Boy Scouts of America) for over 25 years and a member of the St Joseph’s and St Andrew’s the Apostle parish for over 50 years.

Pat had a passion for sports.  She loved the Red Sox. Her calendar had every game mapped out for the season.  She was an avid fan of ice skating. Pat loved following her favorite skaters during the year and at the Olympics; often questioning the intelligence and eyesight of some the judges.  She had similar comments for umpires during the Red Sox games.

Pat loved knitting and treasured giving her beautiful hand-made creations to friends and family.  She often mischievously commented that she might just keep the item, but never would.  She was always available to lend an ear to a neighbor or friend in a time of need or just to catch up on the week, almost always with a nice cup of tea and a little something sweet. Pat was a proud, strong and steadfast friend, who always enjoyed company and a good laugh.

Patricia was one of six children raised in Brockton, by Patrick and Louise (O’Connell) Moore. She is survived by her sister, Jeanne of Rockland; her sons Mark Handren of Wareham, and Scott Handren and his wife Kerri (McGee) of Mansfield; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Pat is predeceased by her husband Richard Allen Handren and her siblings Evelyn (Dee) Moore, Marilyn (Taylor) Moore, Robert (Bob) Moore and John (Jack) P. Moore.

Viewing services will be held at the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave, Taunton, MA 02780 from 4:00- 7:00 PM on May 8, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Church at 19 Kilmer Ave., Taunton, MA 02780 at 11:00 AM on May 9, 2023. Interment at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, immediately following the funeral Mass. She will be beside her husband Richard (deceased).

 The family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, the Wounded Warrior Foundation, or the Joe Andruzzi Foundation in lieu of flowers. We hope that others will continue her tradition of caring and keep her light in the world.
