Nazera “Zita” Drouin, 91, of New Bedford passed away peacefully on Monday October 4th at Autumn Glen in Dartmouth after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Raymond H “Skip” Drouin with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Matilda (Dow) Attallah.
She was a graduate of the class of 1947 of New Bedford High School where she was the class secretary and organized their many class reunions over the years. She was on the board of the YWCA couples club back in the 50’s where she met Skip, the love of her life. She was the cofounder and Sec/Treasurer of Skip’s Marine Inc, a company still thriving 65 years later.
Her pride was her 5 granddaughters who she spoiled with Lebanese food, trips to the movies, theater, fine dining, vacation trips, and unforgettable sleepovers. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, theater trips to New York, talking for endless hours on the phone with her sisters, teaching people how to make Lebanese dishes, and cheering on the Sox and Pats. She and her husband wintered in Margate, Fl for many years, welcoming family and friends into their winter home. She and her husband were honored by St Luke’s Hospital for their generosity over the years and have several rooms named after them.
She is survived by her son Ray Drouin Jr, and his wife Susan of Mattapoisett, a daughter Anne Manley and her husband Marty of So Dartmouth; granddaughters, Heather and Darryl Grosso, Rachel and her husband Andrew Simpter, Katie Drouin and Bruce Thatcher, Caroline Drouin, and Paige and her husband Matt Riordan ; great grandchildren, Cole and Anna Grosso. She was predeceased by a brother Alfred Attallah and sisters Florence Morad, Yvonne Sylvia, and Jeanette Humenuk.
Visiting hours are 4-7pm on Wednesday October 13, 2021 at the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St, Fairhaven Ma. Burial services are private.
