Obituary

Mildred “Millie” (Tourinho) Walker, 87, of Norton, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro of the Coronavirus. She was the beloved wife of the late Ronald George Walker of East Providence, Rhode Island for 60 years.

Born in Wareham MA, Millie was the daughter of the late Peter and Minnie (Gonsalves) Tourinho. Millie was raised to trust and place her life into the hands of the Lord by her father who was an itinerant preacher in the Islands of Cape Verde and by her godly mother. Millie loved and served God with all of her heart! Millie was a former member of the Baptist Church of All Nations, where she and her husband served as Deacons and Millie served as a Sunday School Teacher. Millie and Ron later joined Pastors Dianne and Steven Rodrigues at His Mercy Church located in New Bedford, MA, where they also served as Deacons and Millie served as a member of the Intercessors Ministry. Millie’s touch was far reaching! She spent her life giving to her immediate, extended and church family. Millie “Auntie Millie” filled a void in many lives in the community. She was often encouraging and ministering to all that were in need through intercessory prayer and by providing Godly counsel to countless individuals.

Millie was a great baker and decorator; her specialties included homemade apple pies, apple sauce, cous cous, and pineapple upside-down cake. Mrs. Walker enjoyed crafts, sewing and decorating her home. Millie was a member of the Duckettes, a group of special friends who swam and exercised together at the Holiday Inn, Taunton, MA.

Millie had a great sense of humor. She would always be the life of the party and enjoyed making people feel welcomed and special. She loved to travel, spending 4 months in Florida with daughter Gail and the remainder of the year in MA at the home of daughter Patricia.  She loved to play scrabble, but hated to lose and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She was technologically savvy and a chocoholic.

Mrs. Walker leaves behind her daughters; Dianne M. (Walker) and her husband Rev. Steven Rodrigues of Taunton, Patricia L. (Walker) and her husband Pastor Jerome Chinn of Norton and Gail E. (Walker) and her husband Ilidio Ferro of Coral Springs, Florida. Grandchildren Matthew, Nicole, Adam, Cory, Tyler, and Kyle, great-grandchildren; Brycen, Elijah, Caleb, Olivia, Ava, Ellie, James, Isabella, and Luke; brothers Felix Tourinho of Taunton, MA and Jack Tourinho of Port Charlotte, Florida, Lydia (Tourinho) Gabourel of Naples, Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Sandra J. (Walker) Raymond of Taunton, her brother Walter Tourinho of Taunton and sister Patricia (Tourinho) Duarte of Brockton. Millie loved her family deeply and devoted her entire life to them.

Due to the Pandemic, a private Graveside Service for Mrs. Walker will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at the Mayflower Hill Cemetery.  All Covid 19 guidelines will be adhered to ie: facial coverings and social distancing.

The Family has planned a “Celebration of Millie’s Life” in the spring of 2021 as the Country recovers from the Pandemic.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deacon Ronald G. Walker, Memorial Fund, Bristol County Savings Bank, P.O. Box 4002, Taunton, MA 02780-0956.  Donations will be used to purchase a Church Pulpit in their memory to continue their legacy in Ministry.
