Michele D. Benoit, 61, of Freetown passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Morton Hospital in Taunton after a brief illness. She was the loving wife of 29 years to William A. Tongue.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Alfred and Cecilia (Wegrzyniak) Benoit, she grew up in Fairhaven where she graduated from Fairhaven High School and settled in Freetown in 1992. She was a communicant of St. John Neumann Church in East Freetown. Michele was an owner/ operator of the family business the Dog House Restaurant in New Bedford.
She is survived by her loving husband, William; her son, Edward M. Tongue of Freetown; three brothers, Gary Benoit and his wife Kathleen and Alfred Benoit and his wife Susan all of Fairhaven and Robert Benoit and his wife Doreen of Acushnet; two sisters, Diane Dubois and her husband Paul and Paula Ashley and her husband Tom all of Freetown; and many nieces and nephews. Michele was the sister of the late Bruce Benoit and Gail Pedro.
