Mary Ann (Pietrzyk) Sylvia, Age 86, died peacefully Sunday, August 2 after a period of declining health at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard M. Sylvia whom she shared 54 years of marriage.
Born in Westport, MA, one of five siblings, she was the daughter to the late Stanley and Mary Ann Pietrzyk. Survivors include her son Stanley R. Sylvia and his wife JoAnn from Billerica, MA and her daughter, Debra Ann (Sylvia) Raposa and her husband Thomas from New Bedford, MA. She has five grandsons and three great-grandchildren.
Her civic activities include: Polish Women’s Business & Professional Club, St. George Woman’s Guild, Women’s Club of St Isidore Council K of C, The Greater New Bedford Concert Series, Council of Polish American United Organization, Council of Women’s Organizations of Greater New Bedford, Polish National Alliance of USA, Pairpoint Cup Plate Collector, and the St. Julie’s Ladies Guild. She also was proprietor the Holly Tree Gift Shop in Dartmouth (1956 -2002) and a world traveler.
