Mary Catherine (Ryan) Janczura, 88, of Fall River, MA. died on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Fall River, she resided in Assonet for over forty years. She was the wife of the late Stanley Janczura, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage. She was the daughter of the late Michael P. Ryan and Sarah G. (Burke) Ryan. She took great pride in being awarded the prestigious Watson Medal in eighth grade as well as being head majorette in high school. She was a graduate of the BMC Durfee class of 1952. Mary worked for the New England Telephone (NYNEX) company as a directory assistance operator for many years. She was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Assonet, where she spent many years improving and maintaining the gardens of the church. She received the Marian medal for her efforts. Mary was a member of the Garden Club of Bridgewater and the Durfee Alumni Group. She enjoyed many trips with her husband to Europe and to the west coast to visit her sisters and their families. Her hobbies included swimming at the YMCA, walking with her friends in the neighborhood, knitting blankets for loved ones and keeping up with her family on Facebook. She was a friend of Bill W.
She is survived by six children: Daniel E. Bogan Jr. of Arizona, Kathleen and husband Brian Butler of Weymouth, Stanley J. Janczura of Fall River, Stephen and wife Robyn Janczura of Assonet, Jennifer Van Alstine of New York, and Mary Kate Janczura and wife Colleen Martin of California.
A proud grandmother, she delighted in spending time with the next generation of her family: Sarah and the triplets Emily, Patrick and Brendan Butler, and Jacob, Benjamin and Kathryn Janczura. Mary was the sister of the late Gertrude (Ryan) Knapp, Eileen (Ryan) Furze, Edward Ryan, Elizabeth (Ryan) Polder, Michael P. Ryan, Jr. and Joseph Ryan.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 9th from 4pm-7pm at Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson Street, Fall River. Her funeral service will be Thursday, November 10th at 9am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Bernard’s Church, 32 South Main Street in Assonet. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial to follow at St Patrick's cemetery in Fall River.
