Martin O. Olsen, 82, of Fairhaven passed away Thursday, September 10, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford after a brief illness. He was the husband of 58 years to Mary T. (Best) Olsen.
Born in Wildwood, NJ, son of the late Andrew and Mary A. (Brunner) Olsen, he was a lifelong resident of Fairhaven and communicant of St. Joseph’s Church.
Martin served in the Army towards the end of the Korean War and then worked as a commercial fisherman for 32 years most prominently on the Valkyrie and the Narragansett. He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge #73, enjoyed carpentry and cooking and especially loved Fairhaven and his morning drive by the docks.
He is survived by his loving wife; a son, Andrew R. Olsen and his companion Tricia Earle of Fairhaven; two daughters, Nancy Johansen and her husband David of Sebastian, FL and Karen Arsenault and her husband Dennis of Mattapoisett; four grandchildren, Kathryne Moniz and her husband Ross of Fairhaven, Samantha Olsen of New Bedford, and Rudy and Alec Arsenault both of Mattapoisett; a great grandson, Max Moniz; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Olsen was the brother of the late Dolores Nickerson and Robert Oberg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 10am in St. Joseph’s Church, Fairhaven followed by interment in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St. Fairhaven
