Mark A. Sullivan, Jr. passed away on Friday October 1, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rolande Cormier Sullivan and their two sons, Mark A. Sullivan III and Riley O. Sullivan, his daughter-in-law Xin Xin, and grandchildren Ada and Luca Xin-Sullivan. He was predeceased by his parents, Mark A. Sullivan and Peggy (O’Brien) Sullivan as well as his sisters Colleen Sullivan and Margot Patterson.
Mark spent his life as a champion for the residents of Fall River, particularly for those in need of assistance. He was an economics instructor at Bristol Community College, Manpower Director at Fall River Model Cities Program, and was the Executive Director/CEO at Citizens for Citizens, the area designated anti-poverty agency for over four decades. In his 43 year career at CFC, Mark strongly advocated for the community by establishing, seeking funding, and administering over a dozen programs that assisted tens of thousands of area residents. He was always proud of the employees and the Board of Directors of the organization.
Mark served on various local and state-wide community committees including as the founding chairman of the Mayor’s Homeless Committee, chairman of State Energy Fuel Assistance and Weatherization Committee, president of the Fall River Affordable Housing Corporation, original incorporator of SSTAR Treatment Center, and president of the Corky Row Club. Mark was the recipient of the Fall River Chamber of Commerce John S. Brayton Community Service Award, the Elks Lodge 118 Distinguished Citizenship Award, and multiple Certificates of Special Congressional Recognition among many others.
Mark was exceptionally proud of his entire family.
Calling hours for Mark will be held on Wednesday October 6th, from 4 to 8 PM at Hathaway Funeral Home, 1813 Robeson Street, Fall River. A Christian Mass of burial will take place on Thursday October 7th, at Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover Street, Fall River at 10 AM. Internment to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, 2233 Robeson Street, Fall River. Those attending services are asked to wear masks.
