TAUNTON: Mario A. Rezendes, 83, passed away on June 16, 2022 at Morton Hospital. He was the husband of the late Eberia Rezendes and brother to the late Francis Rezendes, Joseph Rezendes and Raymond Rezendes.
Mario was born in St. Michael, Azores and was the son of the late Louis and Virginia (Pereira) Rezendes.
Mr. Rezendes proudly served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed recounting his adventures in the Navy with his family and especially his Grandchildren.
He held and long and rewarding career as a Paddock Judge at the Raynham-Taunton Greyhound Park where he was very well known for his ability to train dogs, guide young lead outs and enjoy some humor along the way. He remained a staple at the park until it closed. Mario was a long time member of the Taunton PACC, Ward 5 and a communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially on holidays. He was a fan of Western movies, classic country music, Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots. He was devoted to watching the Army-Navy football game and also enjoyed watching college football as well. Always rooting for the"fighting Irirsh"- Notre Dame! Mario will always be remembered as a kind and generous man who would help anyone in need.
He is survived by his daughter, Virginia M. Gowen and her husband, David W. Gowen, his son, Francis M. Rezendes and his wife, Pamela L. Rezendes, his sister, Bertha DaCosta and her husband, Gil DaCosta, his Grandchildren, Lucas Gowen and Timothy Rezendes as well as several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 between the hours of 4:00-7:00 PM at the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home located at 350 Somerset Avenue, Taunton, MA.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew the Apostle Church located at 19 Kilmer Avenue, Taunton, MA. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
