Maria J. (Benevides) Miranda

DARTMOUTH-Maria J. (Benevides) Miranda, 63, of South Dartmouth passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Charlton memorial Hospital in Fall River after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the loving wife of 43 years to the late Manuel J. Miranda.

Born in Feteiras, Sao Miguel, Portugal, the daughter of the late Joao P. and Serafina (Alves) Benevides, she settled in South Dartmouth 44 years ago.  Maria had worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in housekeeping for 15 years.  She attended services at the First Church of the Nazarene in New Bedford and enjoyed shopping and decorating her home.  Maria had an extensive elephant collection and was a wonderful cook.

She is survived by her loving son, Peter B. Miranda and his wife Karen of Fall River;  Maria was one of 13 children and she is also survived by Belarmino, Antonio, Jorge, Conceicao, Adriana, Helena, Lourdes, Margarida, Ramana and the late Carlos, Joao and Inez;  also survived by many nieces and nephews.
