Marguerite “Marge” (Sylvia) Habicht, 94, of Fairhaven passed away from natural causes at home on New Year’s Day, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late J. Norman Habicht and the mother of Myles Tillotson of Wareham and Jane Tillotson Jones of Fairhaven.
She is survived by her children, their spouses Gayle Whittle and Robert Jones, and her grandchildren: Andrew Jones (and his spouse, Deborah Carreiro) and Corey Jones (and his companion, Melissa Lobo) of Fairhaven. She is also survived by her sister, Millicent Sealey of Spring Hill, FL and her family, and her niece, Pamela DePina (and her companion, Bob Gomes) of Acushnet.
Marge retired from the New Bedford Standard-Times, where she served as the assistant librarian and administrative assistant to the editor. She was previously employed at Francis Associates in Marion. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Fairhaven Senior Center, preparing meals on wheels for other seniors. Before and during retirement Marge traveled extensively, including cruises to Europe, Bermuda and the Caribbean, attended many Broadway shows, and enjoyed playing golf with her Standard-Times colleagues. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
The family would like to acknowledge the devotion of her close friends; Lorraine Judge of Somerset, her fearless travel companion, and Maria Levesque of New Bedford. The family would also like to thank Anne Silvia, Director of the Fairhaven Council on Aging, and the Senior Center staff and van drivers for their kindness.
