Manuel Medeiros, 88, a resident of Somerset for many years, passed away unexpectedly at home. He was the husband of Marilyn (Rogers) Medeiros, formerly Kornegay, for 36 years.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late John Medeiros and the late Antonina (Costa) Medeiros, he worked on the family farm in Swansea from the age of 9 until its sale last year to the Town of Swansea for use as a sports complex. For many of those years, he was a co-owner with his brother John. Manny served in the US Airforce for four years during the Korean War from 1952-1956. He also worked for the Massachusetts Mosquito Control for 15 years retiring in 1984. He was a communicant of St. John of God Church, Somerset.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son Jeffrey Kornegay and his fiancé Gail Petit of Somerset; a daughter, Sharon Kornegay Shepard and her companion Jimmie Hunter of Swansea; a daughter-in-law, Kim Kornegay and her fiancé Joe Castro of Somerset; five grandchildren, Kyle, Brendon, Amanda, Shelby and Lilly; a great granddaughter, Scarlett and many nieces and nephews. He was also the widower of Nancy (Imbeault) Medeiros; and father of the late Stephen Kornegay; brother of the late John Medeiros and the late Elsie Forneiro; and father-in-law of the late Paul Shepard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 10AM in St. John of God Church, Brayton Ave., Somerset. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to gather directly at church. There will also be a time of public visitation on Tuesday, February 16 from 4-7PM, subject to capacity limits and mask requirements, in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA.
