Lois H. McCarthy, 96, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2020. She was the wife of the late Eugene L. McCarthy.
Lois was born in Norwalk, CT and was the daughter of the late Charles Hendrick and Viola (Dyer) Hendrick.
Lois was employed as a social worker for the Department of Social Services of Fall River until her retirement. Prior to that, she worked at the Pentagon during World War II, where she met Gene (and Clark Gable). She was a long time member of the Holy Name Women’s Guild, the Westport Yacht Club, Fall River Country Club, and the UMASS Dartmouth Second Half Lifelong Learning Club. Lois had a passion for acting and volunteered with the Little Theater; her name was featured in the credits of the Fall River movie, “Below the Hill!” She also enjoyed playing golf, was an avid bridge player both in local clubs and online, and loved being by the water, especially in Cape Cod. Most of all, Lois cherished the time she spent with her family.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Elizabeth McCarthy of Assonet; daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Jack Stone of Arrosic, ME; brother, Robert Hendrick and his wife Mary and sister Jean R. Mulligan all of Norwalk, CT; grandchild, Pamela McCarthy and great grandchild Avery.
Services for Lois will be held privately.
