Kathleen A. (Correia) Silvia, 75, of Portsmouth, RI passed away Sunday, July 26, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford after a brief illness. She was the wife of 40 years to John F. Silvia. Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Charles and Hilda (Amaral) Correia, Kathleen grew up in Fairhaven where she graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1963. After marrying John in 1980, they began a life together in Portsmouth. Kathleen was the operations manager for the Nabisco Company from 1963 to 2000. After retirement, she worked at the Portsmouth Senior Center and enjoyed volunteering at St. Theresa Church in Tiverton, RI. She loved dancing and music, especially when John was playing his guitar and singing.
Kathleen was affectionately known as Kathy, “Bing,” and grandma to family and friends. A very caring and giving person, Kathy was always there for anyone in need, especially her family members, as they were her world. She enjoyed organizing events, entertaining, and hosting parties. Kathy loved spending time with her family and also enjoyed going to casinos, playing dominoes, singing karaoke, shopping, and browsing at flea markets and yard sales.
Kathleen is survived by her beloved husband John; a son, Brian Silvia of FL; a daughter, Victoria O’Connor of Newport, RI; two sisters, Linda J. Smith and Cynthia J. Pomfret both of Fairhaven; five grandchildren, Michael Cawley and his wife Amy, Christopher Dill and his wife AdysLynn, Jared O’Connor and his wife Melanie, Morgan O’Connor and his wife Hannah, and Madison O’Connor and his companion Ariel Brown; seven great grandchildren; six nieces and nephews, and four Godchildren.
She is predeceased by a son-in-law, Kevin O’Connor; two brothers-in-law, Franklin Smith and Thomas H. Pomfret.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 10am in St. Joseph’s Church in Fairhaven. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements are b y the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven.
