DIGHTON, MA—Joyce A. (DeMello) DiBona, 70, a resident of Dighton, MA throughout her life, passed away Monday, June 22, 2020 in the Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston after a brief and unexpected illness. She was the wife for 46 years of Thomas S. DiBona.
Born in Dighton, a daughter of the late Richard M. DeMello and the late Mary T. (Madden) DeMello, she became a science teacher at the Beckwith Middle School in the Dighton/Rehoboth School System, and then worked as a substitute teacher for many years. Joyce was an equestrian enthusiast, and she owned and handled champion dogs in agility competitions. She was a communicant of St. Louis de France Church, Swansea.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Matthew T. DiBona and his wife Shelley of Belchertown, MA, and Stephen J. DiBona and his wife Amy of Georgia, VT; a brother David DeMello of Dighton; two sisters, Janet Lapointe of Swansea and Holly deMelo of Dighton; and four grandchildren, Mary, Addison Rose, Emily, and Rebecca; She was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard DeMello.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 10am in St. Louis de France Church, Buffinton St., Swansea, MA. All are asked to meet directly at church that morning. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset. There will also be a public visitation time on Friday from 4 to 7pm in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Mask and distancing requirements remain in effect.
