Obituary

Jordan G. DeFarias, 28, passed away on October 5, 2020. He was the loving son of Mark and Catherine (Cretella) DeFarias.

Jordan was a graduate of Joseph Case High School and UMASS Dartmouth, where he earned his degree in Biology. Jordan was employed as a research scientist at MIT. With his love for animals, he worked with Rhesus monkeys preforming research at both MIT and Charles River Laboratories, in addition to working at the Buttonwood Park Zoo and as a personal trainer at the New Bedford YMCA. Jordan was a highly intelligent and driven young man who excelled at anything he put his mind to. He enjoyed playing the guitar, working on cars, snowboarding, volleyball, surfing, and was a talented artist. On a typical day, Jordan could be found researching, inventing and experimenting, from improved surfboards and electric bikes to sustainable energy. Since childhood, he developed an infinite love of art. His paintings and drawings attest to his gift.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his siblings, Joseph DeFarias and his wife Lindsey of Littleton, MA, Matthew DeFarias of Tampa, FL and Lucas DeFarias of Pawtucket, RI as well as his grandmother Virginia Cretella and many aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, October 23, 2020 from 4-7pm in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St. Somerset.

Mask wearing and social distancing will be required.

Funeral services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to MIT, in memory Jordan DeFarias for the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory.
