John R. Pavao, 86, of Swansea, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Saint Anne’s Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of sixty years to Barbara (Marshall) Pavao. John was born in Fall River the son of the late Joseph R. and Maria (Braga) Pavao. He graduated from Joseph Case High School in Swansea class of 1953 and then earned his Bachelor’s of science degree in Education and Music from Lowell State Teacher’s College. Mr. Pavao was the Instrumental Instructor and the Marching Band Director at East Providence High School for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1987. While teaching John earned a Master’s degree in Administration from Bridgewater State College in 1959. In 1990 John accepted a recruiter position for Bristol County Agricultural High School and then fully retired in 2000. John was a farmer at heart, a true handy man who enjoyed home renovations, reading and being with his family and friends. Survivors besides his wife are three sons: John Pavao II of Florida; David Pavao and his wife Paula of Swansea; Christopher Pavao of Swansea; four grandchildren: Lily, Emily, John III and Lauren; a brother: Antone R. Pavao of Wisconsin; along with many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Jim Pavao. A Funeral Mass for Mr. Pavao will be held on Monday, June 13, 2022 at 11am in the Parish Hall at Saint Dominic Church, GAR Hwy, Swansea. His family will receive relatives and friends prior to the Mass from 10am to 11am. Burial will be privately held. Memorial donations in his memory can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 101 First Avenue, Waltham, MA 02451. All arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton Street, Somerset.
