John P. “Jack” Houghton, 69, of New Bedford passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of 50 years to Rena M. (Pelletier) Houghton.
Born in Acushnet. Son of the late Charles and Irene (Howarth) Houghton, he was a lifelong resident of New Bedford. Jack served in the Army during the Vietnam War and later ran his own business, Jack’s Burner Service. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed both working on and riding his motorcycles. Jack also enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the Fairhaven VFW Post 2892.
He is survived by his wife Rena; children, John P. Houghton, Jr. and his wife Amy, Patrick Houghton, Melissa Bourque and her husband Jason and Melanie Houghton all of New Bedford; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two sisters, Charlene Alfonso and her husband David of FL and Hollis Riley and her husband William of New Bedford and several nieces and nephews.
