We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Hathaway Home for Funerals
Janet “Jan”(Perry) Reis, 71, of Fairhaven, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford Massachusetts on Sunday, January 9, 2022 after a long, courageous battle with illness.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Francis Perry and Victoria (Sabra) Perry. She spent most of her life in New Bedford, before living in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Dartmouth, MA, and finally settling in Fairhaven. She worked for the State of Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance in the New Bedford Office for 32 years until her retirement in 2015.
Jan dedicated her life to supporting those who were less fortunate, even while enduring her own illnesses. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. She had many gifts and talents including being a writer, gifted singer and an extraordinary cook. Above all else, she was the most fun and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She proved time and time again that she was the heart of the family and was known for creating huge holiday events and meals in her home and opened her door to all. To know Jan was to know a woman who loved her family and friends dearly and she would reach out via telephone each and every day. She was the most thoughtful and giving person always thinking of ways to give to others to make their day more special. The greatest reflection of her personality was how she loved deeply and fiercely and never hesitated to tell you how much you meant to her. She ended every single text, note or call with “love you”. She leaves a legacy love, kindness and compassion. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Edwin Reis of Fairhaven; daughter, Kim Chouinard and her husband Gary of New Bedford; sons , Steven Canario and his wife Jennifer of Dartmouth and Raymond Canario and his wife Heidi of Dartmouth.
