Obituary

James MacDonald Fotheringham. Jr., 54, of Fairhaven, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020, at Massachusetts General Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late James M., Sr. and Freida “Ann” (Vollmer) Fotheringham, he lived in Fairhaven most of his life and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.  Jim graduated from Fairhaven High School and worked as a commercial fisherman for many years in New Bedford, Oregon, California and Alaska.

Jim enjoyed watching sports, playing pool and was a member of the New Bedford YMCA.  He enjoyed spending time with friends and family and the company of his dog Sadie. 

As a final act of Jim’s kindness, he saved the lives of three others through the gift of organ donation.

He is survived by two sisters, Hazel Ann (Fotheringham) Bielen of Woburn and Bonnie Ann (Fotheringham) Sirois of Vienna, Austria; two brothers in law, Michael Sirois of Fairhaven and Richard Bielen of Woburn;  his nieces, Katelyn Geraghty, Nicole Sirois and Kristen Geraghty, whom he adored;  an aunt, Mary Ledingham of Aberdeen, Scotland and several cousins.  Jim was the brother of the late Scott and Heather Fotheringham.

A private graveside service will be held in Riverside Cemetery and a Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are by the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 16 Temple Pl., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
