Irene (Pacheco) Vieira, 102, of Fairhaven passed away peacefully after a period of declining health Monday, May 2, 2022 at Alden Court Nursing and Rehab Center in Fairhaven. She was the wife of the late Jamie P. Vieira.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Antonio and Mercedes (Soares) Pacheco, she grew up in St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, came back to New Bedford in 1952 and settled in Fairhaven in 1977 where she was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church. Irene was a stitcher at Belmont Manufacturing. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
She is survived by her daughter, Delia M. Cabral and her husband Joao of Fairhaven; five grandchildren, Paul, Mark and John Cabral, Scott Vieira and Cathy Bentley; 12 great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; a sister, Cecilia Faria of New Bedford; many nieces, nephews and Godchildren. She was the mother of the late Antonio M. Vieira and sister of the late Alice Ferro, Dorothy Mello, Ines Amaral and Antonio Pacheco and his wife Alice.
Visitation will be Friday, May 6, 2022 from 9:30-10:30am in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Joseph’s Church, Fairhaven.
