Henry Francis Fairman passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, April 29, 2022. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late John A. and Emily (West) Fairman; brother of the late May, John, Charlotte, Benjamin, and Dorothy.
He was a graduate of Lockwood High School in Warwick, RI and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree at Boston University, Master’s at Berkeley Divinity at Yale University, and Master’s in Social Work at Marywood College.
His life of service as an Episcopal priest and social worker allowed him to care for populations of all needs through direct intervention and through community service with a multitude of organizations. With his compassion and empathy, Hank touched the lives of anyone fortunate enough to know him. His lively sense of humor, unwavering kindness, and wisdom will also be missed.
He relished in peaceful moments spent outdoors enjoying nature while reading on his porch, taking numerous camping trips, and hiking many trails. Tadoussac, Quebec, Canada remained a special place throughout his adult life.
Hank was the beloved husband of Janis L. Fairman for 63 years and, with her, raised 4 children. He prided himself on caring for his family. He was the loving father of Kathleen (Michael Rucker), Brenda Crowell (Peter), Nancy, and Peter (Christina). Papa enjoyed any time he could spend with his grandchildren (Matthew, James, Jonah, Grace, Audra, Emily, Benjamin, Jack, and William) who looked up to him as the ultimate listener, teacher, storyteller, and baseball game companion. Lifelong Red Sox fan, home safe. He is also survived by two great granddaughters, as well as many friends and family who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 191 County Road, Barrington, RI 02806.
