Obituary

George D. Parent, Sr., 90, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his six children on January 8, 2023 He was the husband of the late Barbara A. (Gadouas) Parent.

George was born in Lonsdale, RI and was the son of the late Alfred Parent and Angelina (Houle) Parent.

George served his country honorably in the US Coast Guard during the Korean War and spent a large portion of his service aboard the cutter USS Spencer. He was a longtime employee of Buster Crawford Chevrolet and went on to co-found Parent Radiator which he operated with his wife for 31 years until his retirement. George was an avid fisherman and was happiest when he was on the water and camping with his family. He and his family enjoyed summer getaways on Cape Cod and enjoyed traveling to various parts of the country to visit their children and grandchildren. George was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 302 and volunteer his time as a driver for local disabled veterans. Most of all, George was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be remembered as a true gentleman who cherished the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his children, George D. Parent, Jr of Attleboro, Mel Parent of Southport, NC, Kenneth Parent of Jupiter, Fl; Susan O’Brien of Rehoboth, Joanne Richmond of Clovis, NM and Melissa Burghardt and her husband Ed also of Southport; brother, Raymond Parent of Cumberland, RI; ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

George was the brother of the late Alfred and Armand Parent.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 4-7pm in the Foley-Cook-Hathaway Funeral Home, 126 South Main St., Attleboro.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 with prayers beginning in the funeral home at 10am.

A PRIVATE burial with military honors will follow.
