Eugene R. Oliver, 90, of Swansea, went to be with the Lord, on Monday, March 9, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of forty-five years to Beverly (Rebello) Oliver.
Eugene was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School. He served his country with the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. He graduated from UMASS Dartmouth with a Bachelor’s degree in guidance and history. Mr. Oliver was a guidance counselor at New Bedford Vocational High School for over twenty years. Eugene was an accomplished musician. Eugene was a member of the Marine Corps League LCPL John Van Guyzen Det. 1285, in Somerset. He sang, played piano, composed over twenty songs, two plays and was named entertainer of the year by the City of Newport and also received the keys to the city. Mr. Oliver was also recognized by former President Bill Clinton for his musical talents. Eugene cherished the time with his family and friends, being outdoors, traveling extensively, woodworking and family genealogy.
Survivors besides his wife are four daughters: Deborah Parnther and her husband Reynaldo of Taunton; Jeanne Foster and her husband James of Taunton; Robyn Strolsky and her husband Fred of Berkley; Melissa Oliver of Swansea; two sons: Michael Oliver and his wife Opal of Kodiak, Alaska; Christopher Oliver and his wife Paula of Myrtle Beach, SC; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a sister: Barbara Stafford of Indianapolis, Indiana; a brother: Donald Oliver of New Bedford; along with several nieces and nephews. He was pre deceased by several sister and brothers.
Calling Hours for Eugene will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2020, from 4-7pm, followed by a Funeral Service at 7pm in the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson Street, Fall River. Burial with Military Honors will be Privately held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
