Eleanor R. (Morganstein) Lechan, 93, of Fall River, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at the Cottages at Dartmouth. She was the wife of the late Dr. Leonard M. Lechan. Eleanor was born in Fall River the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mollie (Botway) Morganstein. Eleanor graduated from BMC Durfee High School class of 1945 and then from Lesley College in 1947. Mrs. Lechan worked for the City of Fall River School Department as a grammar school teacher at the Borden and Letourneau Elementary schools. Mrs. Lechan started the nursery school at Temple Beth El in 1951 and was the director for thirty-five years. Eleanor was a member of Temple Beth El, the sisterhood and Hadassah. Mrs. Lechan was the past president of the Hebrew Ladies Helping Hand Society a life member of the Fall River Jewish Home, a member of the Brandeis University Women’s organization and the Somerset garden club. Survivors besides are a daughter: Robin B. Fielding and her husband Alan of Fall River; a daughter in law: Christine (O’Connell) Lechan of Dartmouth; four grandchildren: Jocelyn, Morgan, Brian and Chad; three great grandchildren: Caylee, Ezra and Aria; along with several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Dr. J.J. Morganstein. A Graveside Service for Mrs. Lechan will be held on Monday, May 3, 2021at 1:00pm in the Temple Beth El Cemetery, North Main Street, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Social distancing and facial coverings are required for the safety of all at the cemetery. Memorial observance will be private at the request of the family. Her family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff at the Cottages and also her private caregivers, especially Rachel for the care and compassion provided to Eleanor and her family.
