Elaine J. Dorsey, age 81 of Assonet passed away peacefully on June 2nd after a courageous two year battle with cortical basal ganglionic disease. She shared more than 60 years of marriage with her husband Bob who she first met in 8th grade. Elaine was born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Marion Cordeiro and John Thomas.
Besides her husband Bob, she leaves a daughter Kristin A. Santangelo and a son Erik C. Dorsey (wife Danielle) both of Assonet, two sisters Veronica Andresen of Somerset and Madeline Frizelle of Assonet and grandchildren Jakob, Alexander & Kora Santangelo and Brett & Brayden Dorsey of Assonet.
Elaine was a 1957 graduate of Mt. St. Mary’s Academy and attended Bristol Community College. She retired from R. E. Smith Printing Company where she worked as an accountant. Previous employers included Harte Toyota where she was office manager, Fall River Florist Supply Co., Schaefer Marine, Fall River Trust Co. (Assonet branch) and was a part-time senior clerk to the Freetown Board of Selectmen. She was a long-time member of the Tuesday Club of Assonet and was a co-founder of the former Village Play School. Elaine was a valued partner with Bob in operating Winter Hill Antiques from their home for over 27 years. In finding treasures for their shop, they attended auctions and estate sales from Virginia to Maine & Canada. She loved discovering the back roads of New England and especially enjoyed Horseneck Beach camping, collecting beach glass and long walks towards the sunset. Elaine also enjoyed traveling to Ireland, Florida and on Caribbean cruises.
Abiding by her wishes, her private services and burial are under the care of Hathaway Funeral Home 1813 Robeson St. Fall River. Memorial remembrances may be sent to the Visiting Nurses Association, 200 Mill Rd. Fairhaven, MA 02719 in appreciation for the compassionate hospice care Elaine received from them.
