Obituary

Edward J. Santos, 94, of Dighton passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. He was the husband of Myrna (Menges/Adams) Santos and the late Mary Christine (Bombadier) Santos. Edward was born in Dighton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Gloria (Rebello) Santos.

Leaving Dighton High School in 1944 to serve in the Army Air Corps, Ed started his trucking business, S & L Trucking, at age 20 and continued it for 50 years, traveling all over the country for ten of those years. Ed also served as a Dighton Selectman from 1972 to 1979.

Ed and his late wife had eight children, Edward J. Santos, Jr. and his wife Suanne, Herbert (Rick) Shumway, Jean (Shumway) Johnson, Karen O’Connell, Gail Gisherman, Mary Debra Tanguay, Scott Santos and Brian Santos.

 he also has two stepchildren, Robert Adams and Dale (Adams) Goulart.  His combined family includes eighteen grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

He leaves a brother, Robert Contildes, of East Taunton, and was predeceased by 6 Santos brothers:  Joseph, John, Manuel, Edmund, Ernest and Frederick, and

5 Santos sisters:  Mary Stephens, Alice Emsley, Adeline Mello, Florence Curley, and Agnes Almeida.
