Obituary

Donald G. LeBlanc, 90, of Fairhaven, Massachusetts, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022, after a
brief illness, surrounded by his family and under the compassionate care of Community Nurse Home
Care. He was born in Acushnet, Massachusetts, the son of the late Francis I. and Wilma T. (Papa)
LeBlanc.
Don grew up in the north end of New Bedford and was a graduate of Holy Family High School. He
served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Electrical Engineering from Southeastern Massachusetts Technological Institute, now UMass
Dartmouth. Don worked for the Sippican Corporation, Marion, in the 1960s, and was part of a team that
developed a component in the Apollo spacecraft. He taught mathematics at Upper Cape Cod Regional
Technical School, Bourne, in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
Don loved to create and serve. He was an active communicant of Saint Joseph Church in Fairhaven. He
had a strong baritone voice and was a member of the Saint Joseph Choir for many years. He loved music
of all kinds, especially classic jazz, and taught himself to play guitar, trombone, and the bass fiddle. He
made Nantucket baskets and carved decoy ducks. Don was an avid gardener of vegetables, flowers, and
fruit trees. He loved being on and in the ocean and owned a series of small sailboats and motor boats. He
loved to dig quahogs and clams, and collect oysters. He loved physical activities of all kinds: he played
football and basketball for the U.S. Army in Germany and managed equipment for the Army baseball
team. He was an active member of the Fairhaven Music Parents in the 1970s and 1980s and a volunteer
for Hospice in the 1980s and 1990s. Don was a loving and active grandfather and the founder of Pepere’s
school, where he cared for and taught some important life lessons to his beloved grandchildren He loved
to help family members, friends, and anyone else in need of grass mowing, snow shoveling, and
household maintenance.
Don is survived by his wife of 68 years, Claudette M. (Melanson) LeBlanc; his children: Leslie LeBlanc
and her partner, Rich Kittle, of Hagerstown, MD; Susan LeBlanc and her husband, Douglas Medeiros, of
Fairhaven; Christopher LeBlanc and his husband, Mark Foster, of New Bedford; Matthew LeBlanc and
his wife, Simone Biver-LeBlanc, of Norwood; his grandchildren: Molly LeBlanc-Medeiros and her
husband, Daniel Belschner, of Haverhill; Sophia LeBlanc-Medeiros and her fiancé, Daniel Thomas, of
Haverhill; Sarah (Hartman) Clouse and her husband, Brian Clouse, of Sharpsburg, MD; Emma
LeBlanc-Medeiros of Haverhill; and Pierre LeBlanc of Camp Lejeune, NC; a great-granddaughter, Zoë
Kay Medeiros-Belschner, step granddaughter Lauren (Hartman) Krach and family, Bob Hartman, and
several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Lawrence and his wife, Karen
(Schauer) LeBlanc, of Orland, CA; and his son-in-law, Rick Hartman, of Hagerstown, MD.
Don will be greatly missed. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at
Saint Joseph’s Church, 74 Spring Street, in Fairhaven. There will be a viewing at Fairhaven Funeral
Home on Friday, November 4, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. A private interment will be at the Massachusetts
National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts at a later date. Condolences may be sent to
