Donald H. Johansen, 86, of Assonet passed away on February 17, 2021 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara (Croteau) Johansen.
Born in Brockton, he was the son of the late Henry and Edith (Lupien) Johansen. He worked many years as a long distance truck driver, a local delivery driver, served many years ago as a school bus driver, owned his own printing company, was a captain for Lydia Yachts.
Donald was a multi-talented and gifted craftsman. He built his families homes, and renovated the town hall in Berkley where he resided for many years. He also designed and built a variety of boats, large and small, ranging from toy and model size, up to forty feet, but his greatest joy was his family. Donald cherished the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Barbara, Donald is survived by his daughters Thelma DeCosta of Taunton, Donna Murray of Lakeville, his son Charles “Chip” Johansen and his wife Christine of Assonet, four grandchildren ; Jennifer (Jennie), Theresa (Teri), James (Jimmy) and Alexandra (Lex), as well as great grandchildren ; Kaycee, Tyllah, Hayleigh, Sydney, and Amelia, his brother James Johansen of New Mexico, sister Barbara Galusha of Washington, and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brother Paul Johansen of Rockland, and his sons in-law Keith DeCosta, and Frank Murray.
Calling hours for Mr. Johansen will be held on Wednesday March 3rd, 2021, from 4-7pm in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Avenue, Taunton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Facial coverings and Social Distancing are required inside the funeral home at all times.
