David R. Mayer, 59, of Acushnet passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Care One of New Bedford surrounded by his family. He was the longtime companion of Hazel Cardoso.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Romeo J. and Virginia (Andrade) Mayer, he grew up in Fairhaven and was a graduate of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational High School. David settled in Acushnet 15 years ago.
He worked for Bufftree Building Company for many years and then as a self employed contractor. David was a motorcycle enthusiast and a longstanding member and former officer of the IBF. He was a Jack of all trades and was handy welding and as a mechanic.
David is survived by his loving companion, Hazel; his brothers and sisters, Donald R. Mayer and his wife Deborah of Fairhaven, Darren J. Mayer and his wife Donna of Fairhaven, Dwayne A. Mayer of NC, Donna M. Mayer of Tampa, FL and Tracey A. Mayer of SC; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 25, 2022 from 9-11am in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven with a service in the funeral home at 11am. Interment will follow in Naskatucket Cemetery, Fairhaven. For memorial register or facility directions please visit, www.hathawayfunerals.com.
