Beryl (Wortman) Maddows, 93, of Raynham, MA, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2020. She was a truly beloved member of both the Lowe and Loja families. She was also a loving wife to the late Warren Maddows.
Beryl was born on September 1, 1927 to Emily and Harry Wortman, and raised in Somerville, MA. Before embarking on a very exciting business career, she served as the head majorette for the Somerville High School marching band, and studied both the violin and dance.
Along with her husband, Beryl started and owned one of Cape Cod’s most famous and historic restaurants, The Columns. People across the Cape would come to eat the amazing food and listen to the talent of jazz musicians like Dave McKenna and Teddy Wilson. After the passing of her husband, Beryl turned all of her attention on her career at Instron, a publicly traded company founded in 1946.
After retiring, she loved spending time with her late sister, Patricia Lowe, and sister-in-law, Lillian Loja. She introduced culture and the arts to her family by taking them to live performances at Trinity Rep and the BSO. She would bring her nieces and nephews to VIP art showings in Boston, and take them on luxurious trips to tour some of the wonders of our country.
She is survived by her nieces; Heather and Bonnie Lowe, along with their children and grandchildren; Eric Lowe, Ian Lowe, Timothy Iacobucci, Emily Iacobucci, CJ Lowe, Myra Lowe, Annabelle Beryl Lowe, and Maddison Lowe. She is also survived by her niece; Jackie Flynn, nephew; Jeff Loja, and his sons; Jonathan Loja and Jeffrey Loja.
She was seen as a Guardian Angel to her family, and her impeccable style and grace set an example of living that everyone should have an opportunity to experience.
