Barbara Ann Fortin

January 10, 2022

Obituary

Barbara Ann Fortin, 87, formerly of Somerset, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on January 10, 2022. She was the wife of the late Joseph A.G. Fortin.

Barbara was born in Fall River and was the daughter of the late Robert Pemberton and Mary (Holden) Pemberton.

Mrs. Fortin was a lifelong resident of the south coast and a longtime communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Swansea. Her faith and family came above all else for Barbara, something she instilled in her family. Barbara cherished the many moments she spent with her children and grandchildren, whether it was day trips with the children to Lincoln Park or Rocky Point, trips to New Hampshire and Vermont with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, or hosting annual holiday gatherings in her home, everyone was always welcome. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading novels, and watching sports. Her favorite team was the New York Yankees. She will be fondly remembered by her family as everyone’s “Nana”, a compassionate and giving woman who prayed for everyone and was always thinking of others. Right up until she became sick last year she was still very much involved in helping to care for her great grandchildren and attending their extracurricular activities. She loved to be involved in everything and enjoyed going to cheer them on. Her biggest wish after becoming sick was to meet her newest great grandson, who was born in November.

She is survived by her children, Donald Fortin and his wife Genna of Somerset, Gary Fortin and his wife Teresa, Barbara M. Fortin and Tina Rosenstein all of Swansea; sister, Joan Daley of WA; daughter in laws Kimberly, Arlene and Geralyn Fortin; fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Jeffrey, David and Robert Fortin and sister of the late Robert Pemberton.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Monday, January 17, 2022 from 4-7pm in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset.
