Alfred Pacheco, Jr.

Alfred Pacheco, Jr., 84, passed away at home surrounded by his family on May 10, 2021. He was the loving husband of Margaret (Wetterland) Pacheco, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. 

Al was born in Fall River and was the son of the late Alfred Pacheco, Sr., and Anne (Trembly) Pacheco. He resided in Fall River for 31 years and lived in Dighton for the last 53 years.

Al served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War and went on to serve in the National Guard for over 25 years, retiring with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. Al was employed for many years as an Engineering Change Order Analyst with Raytheon Corp.

In 1971, Al became a police officer with the Town of Dighton Police Department, a job he faithfully served with integrity and distinction for 26 years, retiring as the Chief of Police in 1997. Al was devoted to his career and his town and received many complimentary awards and was responsible for obtaining many awards and grants for the police department over the years. Al was a former police union president and a former president of the Dighton Police Association. Al also had the distinction of serving as the department’s first K9 officer, first court officer and first department instructor. In addition, he was the first member of the department to receive his Associate, Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Criminal Justice all with high honors. 

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children. Karen M. Pacheco of Swansea and Kirk D. Pacheco of N. Dighton; grandchildren, Lynn and Chad Moody, Douglas and Chelsea Pacheco; great-granddaughter, Alexis Kleinschmidt and many nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Kevin and Keith Pacheco and brother of the late Shirley (Pacheco) Martin.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 4-7pm in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 14th at 10am in St. Nicholas of Myra Church, 499 Spring St., N. Dighton. 


**Relatives and friends are invited to attend DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH.

Burial with military honors will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Somerset.

Donations in Al’s memory may be made to the Bristol County Chief’s of Police Association or to the Dighton Police Association.
