Thomas J. DeTerra, 83, of Fairhaven, passed away unexpectedly at home Thursday, November 28, 2019. He was the husband of 54 years to the late Margaret E. (Bettencourt) DeTerra.
Born in Fairhaven, son of the late Thomas and Ellen (Sheehan) DeTerra, he was a lifelong resident of the town. Mr. DeTerra had been a machine repairman at Chamberlain Manufacturing for many years. He also worked at Poyant Signs and later DeTerra and Son's Excavation, his son's business.
Tom enjoyed being on the ocean boating, working on his antique cars, he was an avid New England sports team's fan and loved watching a good Western movie but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Thomas J. DeTerra, Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Acushnet, David M. DeTerra and his wife Michelle of Acushnet, Dawn M. Dias and her husband James of Mattapoisett and Sherri A. Medeiros and her husband Charles of Acushnet; three brothers, Robert DeTerra and his wife Blanche of Fairhaven, John DeTerra and his wife Suzanne of Acushnet and Kenneth DeTerra and his wife Linda of Florida; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Private arrangements were by the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven.
