Obituary

Rufus O. DeCastro, 62 years old, died in Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, from complications of a massive Stroke, on May 13, 2018.

He was a Taunton resident having been born in Taunton, son of Avis (Chace) DeCastro of Taunton and the late William DeCastro. He was one of ten children. He was a 1974 graduate of Taunton High School and attended Roger Williams University where he studied drafting. Rufus was a carpet and flooring installer for over 30 years. He worked for B-Z Carpet, in Raynham, before opening his own shop, Friendly Carpet. He also worked at Lincoln Greyhound Park.

He was the former husband of the late Kimberly (Cotter) DeCastro. He liked farming the family homestead and running his vegetable stand. Rufus was a avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a longtime member of the Atlantic Fish Club.

He is survived by his longtime partner of 30 years Robin Ryan. He is the father of Joshua DeCastro and partner Debbie Duncan of Taunton and Kasey Moniz and her husband John also of Taunton. He is the grandfather of Ruby and Tooey. Rufus is the brother of Carol Wilkerson and husband Larry of Taunton, Helen Sylvia of Taunton, William DeCastro, Jr. and his wife Roni of Chesterville, ME, Peter DeCastro of New Bedford, Marjorie Galuski and her husband Theodore of Gilford, ME, Pamela DeCastro of Taunton and Scott DeCastro and his wife Sharon of Taunton. He was also the brother of the late Janice Sullivan and Craig DeCastro. He was the uncle of many nieces, nephews and cousins. Rufus is also survived by his faithful beagle Timmy.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave.(Route 138 South), Taunton, on Friday, May 25, 2018, from 4-8 PM.

Private family service will be held in the West Congregational Church.
